LYEN CPP awaiting at the factory

These days, the CPP and Tunnel thrusters produced by LYEN for DONG FANG HONG 2 have entered the stage of Factory Acceptance Test.

As an upgrade project, the ship owner put forward a high demand for Underwater Radiation Noise requirement: CCS Noise 2 (equivalent to DNV Silent A+S).

Underthe requirement, LYEN re-designed the new propeller in terms of blade arearatio, skew angle, load distribution, etc. Compared with the original propeller, which focuses on speed and efficiency, the new propeller is designedto reduce noise, cavitation and impulse pressure considering the draftand speed. Compared with the old one, the noise of LYEN CPP is reduced by about 55% while the water opening efficiency of LYEN CPP is increased by about 16%, which greatly reduces cavitation, noise and impulse pressure.

A comparison of the noise of the original propeller and the new propeller at a speed of 11 knots (the blue one is the new one), and the noise of the new propeller is reduced by about 55%

These years, LYEN has been committed to marine propulsion. We arepleased to see that noise, impulse pressure and cavitation are becoming more and more aware of their importance in the market as higher technical indicators for ship service life. LYEN CPP, as one of the best CPP in the world, undoubtedly brings a better choice to the shipowner.

Introduction to DONG FANG HONG 2

DONG FANG HONG 2, a famous research vessel belongedto Ocean University of China, was first built in 1996. At that time, its designand construction absorbed a large number of advanced experience of researchvessel, and all the main core equipment was manufactured by first-classfactories.

However, after 27 years of service, many equipment has been rusted, worn, aged and deteriorated. At the same time, the increase in the demand forscientific research has also increased the requirements for the performance andfunction of scientific research vessels, especially for vibration and noise reduction, and increased the requirements for reducing the maintenance costs of ships while prolonging the service life of ships.

Among many designs, the design of LYEN has been recognized by many professionals with its outstanding advantages in advanced technology (like low pressure and low noise, the health monitoring system, and the intelligent-optimization system), design experience, and after-sales service.
